A website designer in Plymouth who works with trades
If you install for a living and you're after someone local to build your website, this page is the straight version: who I am, what it costs against what everyone else in Plymouth advertises, and what you get for the difference.
Who does website design for tradesmen in Plymouth?
There are around ten web design firms serving Plymouth and most of them build for any business that walks through the door. I only build for trade businesses. I'm based in Plymouth, I work across Devon and Cornwall, and I came off the sales side of the building trade before I built websites — so when you tell me your job runs on surveys, lead times and callbacks, I'm not learning that from a briefing document.
What being local actually changes
Most of it is not the postcode. You can build a website for someone three hundred miles away and it will work. What being local changes is the survey.
Before I build anything I go through the job the way you'd go through a job: what you actually install, which work you want more of, which work you'd rather stop taking, what the last five enquiries asked before they booked. If you're in or near Plymouth I can do that face to face, and I can come and photograph real finished work instead of putting stock photography of somebody else's installation on your site.
That matters more than it sounds. Your competitors' sites are full of images that were bought, not taken. A customer comparing three quotes can tell.
What a website costs in Plymouth, honestly
How much does a website cost in Plymouth?
Pay-monthly websites are advertised locally from about £21 a month, with tiers at roughly £33, £60 and £82. Another local studio advertises pay-monthly from £50. One-off builds are advertised from £299. A full agency build with search work attached is advertised from around £1,495. The Installer Growth System is £2,750 to set up and £295 a month. So I am not the cheapest number on this page and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Here is what the difference buys. On a pay-monthly site you are renting — stop paying and the site goes. You own an Installer Growth System build outright, files and all, on your own hosting, and it stays yours whatever happens between us. The job is surveyed and set out before a line is written. And the £295 is not a hosting fee: it is the ongoing work of endeavouring to push you toward the top of Google and the AI assistants, plus a report every month with the real numbers in it. If what you want is a website to exist, £21 a month buys that. If what you want is a website that brings work in and belongs to you, this is the one that does it.

Those figures are what those firms publish on their own websites, read on 27 August 2026. Scopes differ and I haven't compared them line by line — treat them as advertised starting points, not like-for-like quotes.
How a build runs
- You tell me your trade and your company name. Nothing else needed yet.
- I build you a working homepage on your brand and send it over — usually the same day. Free, and yours to look at with no obligation.
- If you like it, we survey the job properly: your services, your area, the work you want more of, the questions your customers actually ask.
- I set the site out and build it by hand. One person, start to finish — no account manager, no junior doing the work.
- It goes live working, with the search and AI-search set-up done from day one rather than sold to you later.
- Every month after that: the search (SEO) and AI-search (GEO) work — pages, updates and labels for your towns and your trade — published once you've approved it, plus a report with the real numbers in it. We build, we publish, you approve.
The proof, such as it is
I'm not going to show you invented case studies or 'top of Google in a week' screenshots. My first paying client was Toner Mechanical & Electrical — they came to me with a bare-bones site that undersold years of high-end work, and it left as a proper showcase with a full document pack behind it.
I measure myself the way I measure my clients
The second build is this website, and it is the first Installer Growth System site being measured in public. Every client on the system gets a report each month with the real numbers in it. I run exactly the same report on my own site and I publish what it says, including when it says something I would rather it didn't.
So how visible is Harvey's Websites right now?
Measured on 27 August 2026: I asked five AI assistants — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and the AI answer Google now puts above its ordinary results — five questions a trade business would actually ask, in the UK, with live web search on. That is 25 answers. **My business was named in none of them, and my website was linked in none of them.** That is the starting line, and it is dated so you can hold me to it. The same five questions get asked again after this page has been live a fortnight, and the answer — better or worse — goes on this page. A report that only ever shows good news is a sales document, not a measurement.

And here is why that number is not the whole story
In the same check I looked at the firm that sits first in Britain for 'website for tradesmen' — the top result in the country on that search. **Not one of the five assistants named them either.** They are winning the Google results and losing the AI answers at the same time.
That is worth understanding before you buy anything from anyone, because most firms will sell you one and call it the other. Showing up well on Google and being recommended by name when someone asks an assistant are two different outcomes with two different causes. A page can be built for Google and still give an assistant nothing worth quoting. Both need doing, and they need doing differently.
So when I say I am endeavouring to push your business toward the top of Google and the AI assistants, I mean both, measured separately, shown to you monthly either way. Not a promise about a position — nobody honest can promise that — but the work, and the numbers, in the open.
Questions I get asked
Will I own the website outright?
Yes. Files, code and content are yours, on hosting in your name. If you walk away you take the site with you and it keeps working. That is the part that separates an owned build from a pay-monthly rental, and it is worth asking every firm you speak to, because the answer is not always yes.
Do I need my own site if I'm on Checkatrade or MyBuilder?
Most established installers should run both, then let the numbers decide. The directories bring work and take a cut, and you are listed next to your competitors on someone else's page. Your own site is the one place where the comparison is not happening. The fuller answer, with the costs, is on the guide page.

Can I see it before I pay?
Yes, and I'd rather you did. If you already have a site, start with the free live report — where Google and AI search mention you today, and the three things to fix first. Otherwise tell me your company name and your trade and I'll build you a working homepage on your own brand, usually the same day, free. Telling an installer 'trust me, it'll be good' is agency talk — you wouldn't price a job without walking it first.

Can you promise I'll be first in Plymouth?
No, and anyone who does is selling you something. What I do is the work of endeavouring to push your business toward the top of Google and the AI assistants, and then show you the actual numbers every month — up or down. A report that only ever shows good news is a sales document, not a measurement.
